Description
One of the most innovative ideas to come out of Microsoft (in 2006) was the adaptation of their SQL Mobile DBMS, originally designed for use with cellular telephones, PDAs and other hand-held devices, for use as a local database engine in Windows Forms application. This Ebook discusses the features, functionality and limitations of the 3.0 version of this engine. Over the last five years Microsoft made some (relatively minor) changes and released the 3.5 version of the engine now called SQL Server Compact Edition or SQLCe for short. This is the SQL engine that's used to implement the equally cool Local Data Cache technology in Visual Studio 2008. Consider that the new 4.0 version actually removes functionality so it's expected that the 3.5 implementation will continue to be implemented whereever a client-side DBMS that supports several modes of synchronization is needed.
