FAITH: The First Principle

LDS GOSPEL DOCTRINE. Latter-day Saints recognize that faith is the first and foundational principle of the gospel, as declared in the Fourth Article of Faith. Jesus Christ taught that if we exercise faith, even the minuscule amount represented by a very small mustard seed, that we will be able to move mountains. Author J.L. Thompson, whose books have been available on LDS bookstore shelves for nearly 20 years, has compiled in this work a formidable argument that Mormons and all Christians are only scratching the surface when it comes to exercising their faith and invoking the powers of heaven and the priesthood. Although one might think that the subject of faith has been fully explored, we actually find very few attempts to fully outline its nature, power, and accessibility to church members, with the possible exception of the Lectures On Faith. In fact, this book utilizes the Lectures on Faith as a foundation for this work, and explains its principles in a manner that makes them quite accessible for all church members. The author delineates in this work the numerous promises made by the Lord Himself that church members can receive the blessings of heaven if they will only do certain things that He has prescribed. To the extent possible, the author has written an "Owner’s Manual" on faith, with the intent that members will begin to exercise faith at new levels, comparable to those who populated the Zion of Enoch.
