Description
It’s high summer, time for fun in the sun. And it’s all about to happen at the Hotel Orlando in Figueretas, Ibiza……
Dublin Airport on a hot July Saturday night, and a disparate group of holidaymakers join the check-in queue. Destination Ibiza, the legendary Fun-In-The-Sun holiday island in the Med…..
The check-in queue is comprised of the usual motley crowd of sun-seekers: girls chattering excitedly as they survey the f ellas; macho males in trendy shirts eyeing up the girls; a young couple whispering intimacies, bored middle-aged married couples – and the ocasional lone male or female holidaymaker trying not to look too conspicuous….
All of them dreaming of that ideal holiday in the sun, some prepared to lose their inhibitions and shed their clothes with their problems. Others hiding secrets, leaving their cares at the airport until they return.
Meet Caroline O’Hara, young, beautiful and confused, a girl with a secret past heading alone to Ibiza hoping to sort out her life…Also Wayne and Mark, two twentysomethings out for a good time…The scheming Fiona and Gerry, enjoying a liaison dangereuse away from their unsuspecting spouses…Georgia, Alison and Bernice, a trio from Dublin’s northside fuelled by visions of tv’s ‘Ibiza Unzipped’. Also Des Murtagh and his upmarket wife Evelyn, she caught up with the idea of buying a Spanish villa, not knowing her husband has just lost his job….Maureen from Tipperary, 40-ish and single, escaping from the family farm for two weeks, still haunted by a lost love. When she meets sprightly Dub Alec ‘Doc’ Holliday something stirs, but Doc is chatted up by Yolanda, an attractive high-flying widow with the Ibiza Drug Squad – and suddenly his life is in danger!
Then there’s married couple Ben and Irene O’Rourke, flying back to Ibiza for a silver wedding anniversary, a happy occasion that turns into a nightmare for Ben when old flame Paula Sheridan turns up to spoil the party…
‘Last Tango In Ibiza’, with its cast of characters getting more than they bargained for from their holiday brochures, is funny, poignant and unputdownable – eminently suitable for a good read, whether you’re relaxing on a beach in the sun or on a sofa at home. And at the end of the holiday, when Flight EI.105 departs Ibiza for Dublin, there are decisions to be made. For some people on board payback time has arrived….
The novel is unique in that it is written by a mature all-female 6-member writers group from Dublin’s Artane, plus journalist/author William Rocke on whose original idea it is based.
