The following book seeks to look at the various ways in which Eastern and Western cultures have converged in the guise of martial arts in the modern era. The book is therefore first and foremost an exploration of the globalisation and the hybridisation of culture in the contemporary age: the exportation and importation of mystic eastern culture to the West as well as the exportation and importation of western capitalist culture to the East. The convergence of this globalisation of culture has been meted out in a number of ways – in food, music, fashion, architecture, political and economic ideology and, most visibly, in film.
