Laugh, I Thought I'd Die

Charlie Weeks, a high school senior, finds a summer job at a local African Violet Factory where prize plants are grown and sold to the local community. The pay is only a dollar and hour, but Charlie soon meets a most fascinating gardener, Buddy Hobbs, whose incredible optimism and unique philosophies of life more than make up for the low pay. It is soon revealed that Buddy has designed an produced a magnificent special fertilizer named “Morebloom.” The entire area raves about the effectiveness of this product, and it soon becomes a best seller. In time, Buddy slowly reveals some of the surprising secrets surrounding Morebloom, and Charlie finds that it is much more than meets the eye. Laugh, I thought I’d Die is a humorous and philosophical tale of two young men who become good friends, potting flowers and, yes, even as they spend hours packaging bags of cooked manure from a large pit.
