Spinal Cord Injury

Together with my brother José I wrote a book about his spinal cord injury. We’ve noticed most people don’t know much about suffering a spinal cord injury.

His story starts at a point that life’s wonderful, he’s freshly in love. On a sunny day he decides with some friends to go for some workout in the Wood. Afterwards they relax by a lake where José decides to take a dive to cool off. Then he feels how his head hits a rock and immediately he’s paralysed by a broken neck!

If you are just told that you suffer a spinal cord injury, you do not know what to expect. This also applies to the family or husband / wife and children. He or she gets the spinal cord, but it has an impact on the whole family.

So many questions going through your head. But if you have been told that you suffer a spinal cord injury, your whole world collapse.

We faced all this. Our book will lead you through José’s life and the choices he had to make. How he, unknowing, had to make difficult decisions at request by his doctor afterwards proved unnecessary. We also found that hospitals often do not know nearly enough about a spinal cord injury.

The first six years of his spinal cord injury, José lived in denial. He was a handsome, smooth guy with a bright future, now he was unable to do anything at all.

Jose is open about everything, admits his mistakes and doesn’t hesitate to also explain how he experiences sex now. He tells you everything he’d been through. His stories sometimes have a funny touch, I’m sure he will make you laugh.

He also tells you some tricks that make life still worth living for. In spite of a spinal cord injury!
