Description

LeAnne (Lee) Strictor is a thirty-eight year old homemaker/ex-journalist who gave up her career to raise their two children, eight-year-old Marc and five-year-old Courtney. On the surface, she appears to be very calm and even-tempered. The surface is very thin. Following a dream she has concerning her husband's faithful nature, she becomes paranoid and delusional. Her dreams become more explicit and she often dreams of retaliation for her husband's transgressions.

Jon Strictor is a thirty-eight year old pilot who looks forward to gaining enough time in the right seat to one day fly the wide-bodied airplanes. He enjoys spending time with his family and is dedicated to his wife and marriage. After a series of nightmares, he is in danger of losing his license. He visits with a psychiatrist, Dr. Isaac Fansickle, at the prompting of his flight physician. Dr. Fansickle recommends that Jon make a change in his sleep pattern, which will take Jon away from home every night. When Jon tells Lee that he will be spending five nights a week in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, her anger becomes her life.

Soon, both Lee and Jon realize that she can enter and control his dreams. He has no protection against her intrusions. When he sleeps away from home, his nightmares do not visit him. However, he only gets four hours of sleep at night and must make up the difference upon arriving at home. Lee starts taking naps while Jon is sleeping.

Lee finds props she can use to further terrorize Jon. The final prop being the aircraft he longs to fly.

The doctor has given Jon sleeping pills to help him sleep while he is on vacation. One night, overcome with exhaustion, he takes two of the pills and drinks them down with whiskey. When he falls asleep he discovers himself in the cockpit of a 747, flying solo. He is overwhelmed with fear. He awakens several times but cannot remember if he took pills earlier in the evening. After several episodes of waking up, taking two pills and drinking them down with the whiskey, he finds that the fear will no longer jar him from the nightmare. He can feel Lee's presence. He also knows that there is someone else in the cockpit.
