Description
'Nursing the World. Celebrating the Past, Claiming the Future', is a global snapshot in time reflecting on the state of the Nursing and Midwifery professions at the turn of the Millennium. It includes a foreword & greetings by both The Hon. Nelson Mandela and the The Hon. Tony Blair. It is a unique compilation at a unique point in history.
After, re-reading the book and the contributions, it felt wrong to try and update the text. Not only does 'Nursing the World' provide a unique insight, but, the contributions remain valid. It is amazing to see that so many of the contributors continue to this day to be at the forefront globally, advocating strongly for human and patient rights.
Many have asked for ‘Nursing the World’ to be re-published and made more easily available. This edition is the result, hopefully, achieving that aim.
In the year 2000 we needed a global workforce which would be sufficient in number, well educated, highly skilled, but also empathetic and caring to meet the needs of the people we serve. In 2012 there have been many advances but in essence the issues and goal remains the same.
