The book, written By Hickory Daily Record journalists Richard Gould and Sarah Newell Williamson, is the behind-the-scenes story of the investigation into the murder and dismemberment of 10-year-old Zahra Baker. Zahra, a two-time cancer survivor from Australia, came to the US with her father after he married Elisa Baker. The stepmother eventually pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Zahra's story got media's attention because she was known in Australia as a valiant cancer survivor and the Nancy Grace Show's focus on the murder.
