Serious illness and slow convalescence, by which I was for a long time disabled, have prevented this. And sincere thanks are due to many who have patiently waited throughout the year until the work could be completed. Now, upon the eve of my return to China, it is sent forth with the prayerful and earnest hope that God, Who from the lips of babes can perfect praise, will use it to His own glory. The story of such aM ission as of every movement that is of Him is a story without an end. So much has been omitted from this book, in order to bring it within necessary limitations, that to those who read between the lines it will seem sadly incomplete. In regretting many an omission, they have the authors fullest sympathy. When a large number of facts and dates are dealt with, it is difficult to attain perfect accurary.
