Description
The attention of teachers is called to the Questions printed at the end of this volume. The use of these Questions is recommended as introductory or supplementary to the study of the Tarions parts of the text-book witli pupils of eleven years and over. The knowledge of any one continent, country, or city is made clearer and broader by the comparisons which the questions institute, and principles of physical geography receive new light from the numerous illustrations that they indicate. The reasoning power and the judgment of pupils are made active by their use, and it has been found that interest in the work is greatly strengthened by such activity and by its reward of new knowledge. To teachers not already acquainted with the book, the questions upon Scandinavia (N os. 600 to 512 and 62, 173, etc.) are recommended as fitted to give in short space a good ensample of the general spirit of the work, if their answers be sought out in the pages of the textbook to which reference is made in the several questions. Attention is also called to the Commercial Index on page 385 as furnishing a convenient basis for the study of special topics. features and conditions with which the general description has to do. Space is thus afforded for a more detailed general description, and for the introduction of facts and statistics showing more minutely the results of geographic conditions.
