Description

WINNER 77th Writer's Digest Writing Competition ~ Honorable Mention!
So, what do you do when you hit 40, but you haven't fulfilled any of your post-college dreams? Why, you write a one-act play, of course! That's exactly what stay-at-home mom, Emma, is doing much to the chagrin of her attorney husband, Brad, and their children, Tracy and Spenser.

Channeling her inner Dashiell Hammett, Emma conjures a world of pre-war intrigue while dealing in the here and now with an annoying teenage cheerleader, a bratty pre-pubescent son, and a clueless husband.

THE PLAY takes place in present day as well as 1939 Los Angeles. The stage is split into two distinct areas via lighting. Stage left represents Emma's garage where she has set up a makeshift writer's refuge. Stage right is the anachronistic office of H.M. Blackie, Private Investigator.

THE PLAY is great fun for seasoned actors and amateurs alike. The set is minimal with lighting being the essential element. The dialogue is smart, just a wee bit sexy in a Bogart/Bacall kind of way, and realistic. The present-day characters are true-to-life with modern sensibilities. The characters from 1939 are very stylistic and straight out of a Raymond Chandler screenplay.
