The first title (British title: Northern Lights) in Philip Pullman's' His Dark Materials' trilogy, 'The Golden Compass'. Octavo, jacket illustrated by Eric Rohmann, charcoal and black boards with silver spine imprinting, 399 + 1 + 1 pp. 'About the Author'. A better-then Very Good book in like jacket; some might grade both near fine, but these are in fact a very strong Very Good. Book shows small bit of faint edgewear at bottom left front cover, and a short abrasion at top left edge of rear cover (see scans); jacket shows minor from panel rubbing, and the top edge of rear panel is thinly roughened (see scans). Stated first edition, and a first printing of that. Jacket shows the number 52000 above the bar code, a point which has been rumored by some to be a necessary one, but which to our knowledge has not been so established. Ships in a new, sturdy, protective box, of course; not a bag. L10n
