Michael Byars Lewis is a former AC-130U Spooky Gunship Pilot with 18 years in Air Force Special Operations Command. He has flown combat missions in Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. With 25 years as an active duty and reserve pilot, Michael has been an Instructor Pilot in the T-38, T-37, and the AC-130U. He’s also been an aircraft commander on the HC-130N/P and and the C-130 and is currently a pilot for a Major US airline.

Following the 9/11 attacks, Michael returned to active duty and the AC-130U. He served as an Expeditionary Squadron Commander for combat operations in Iraq and as the Wing Battlestaff Director during his time in special operations. He spent his last five years on active duty instructing and mentoring the next generation of gunship pilots at the Air Force Special Operations Air Warfare Center’s schoolhouse for flight instruction.

Active in his community, Michael has been mentored college students on leadership development and team-building and is a facilitator for an international leadership training program. He has teamed with the Air Commando Association Foundation Endowment which supports Air Commando’s and their families unmet needs during critical times.

While he has traveled around the world, Michael is happily living in Florida with his wife Kim.

SURLY BONDS is his first novel.
