Description
Dutch Americans were the largest nationality group in the early years of our American history except for the native Americans. During the New Amsterdam years from 1624 to 1664, the Dutch controlled much of New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Delaware. The British took over then and their influence gave us the English language, replacing the Dutch language then in vogue. Dutch was spoken in the Hudson River Valley until the mid 1800's.

Since then many other nationalities have entered the United States and the Dutch have become one of the smaller nationality groups. To celebrate the contributions by the Dutch in the early years this book aims to point out that the Dutch Americans have remained contributors to our American culture, society and economy. In this book the Dutch American Achievers in Arts, Science and Sports will be presented. In another volume the other achievers in such areas as government, the military, business, history and philosophy will be presented.
