Description
An energetic and delightful collection of lyrical and unpredictable poetry as diverse as the six poets who combined thier talents in this memorable volume. Here is the clear-eyed wit and and refreshing music of the Salt Coast Sages, M. Kelly Lombardi, Sharon Bray, Donald Crane, Gerald George, Philip Rose, and Grace Sheridan.
This anthology will reward the reader with a panoply of riches. Some poems have the definite Maine stamp, some don’t, but all the work is strong. These are the voices of experience, who sing of harsh Maine winters and poverty, the beauties of nature, and the complexities of relationships. There is sensual detail, sorrow and joy. This is my favorite kind of anthology, with an interesting mix of voices and styles. Buy this book!
— Alice Persons, poet, editor, and publisher of Moon Pie Press
I first met the Salt Coast Sages as a workshop I directed in the famous literary town of Listowel in Co. Kerry, Ireland. I am glad to say that they made me work hard. This was because they had a group that takes their writing and its presentation very seriously indeed, and their standards are accordingly high. Their friendship does not preclude rigorous and probing criticism of one another’s work, and what they produce is work which has something to say, and says it well. This is the only real test of good writing, and the Salt Coast Sages pass it with flying colors.
— Paddy Busche, teacher, translator, and prize-winning Irish poet
