Description

To honor the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth, the ‘Lincoln Farm Association’ put together this small book containing three short, but insightful, pieces of Lincoln history. They were written by three noted authors of their day, whose one common link was their abiding respect and endearing love for Abraham Lincoln.
Frederick Trevor Hill (1866-1930), wrote ‘The Battle of the Giants’, an account of the first of seven ‘traveling’ debates between Douglas and Lincoln. ‘The Parents of Abraham Lincoln’, was written by Ida Minerva Tarbell (1857-1944). With speculation running rampant about Lincoln’s lineage, the author uncovers the truth, forever putting to rest the ‘rumors’ in regard to the President’s parents. Richard Lloyd Jones (1873-1963), outspoken and influential journalist, and co-purchaser of the old Lincoln farm, writes ‘An Appeal to Patriotism’, which relates the formation of the ‘Lincoln Farm Association’, and gives a public appeal to rescue Lincoln’s birthplace for future generations.
A delightful surprise is the ‘Souvenir’ given by the Lincoln Farm Association at the end of the book. It is a letter from then President, Theodore Roosevelt, accepting the invitation to give an Address on the Lincoln Farm, on the 100th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth.
