-Entamoeba histolytica, WW in humans and mammals
Humans ingest cysts, trophozoites develop and infect LI,
Metacyclic trophozoites => cysts => feces NPI, Trophozoite erodes the mucosal surface of the LI => flask shaped ulcers or granulomas; lesions in brain, liver, lungs and skin
Dx: (Trophozoites) Central karysome or cysts w/ 1,2, or4 nuclei in fecal flotation iodine stain
S&S: N/V/D, RTI, chest pain and cough, hepatitis, brain abscesses, conjunctivitis and skin sores (w/odor)
Tx: metronidazole
