Prince Torin will need the help of the fiercely independent Neuck Triibe if he's to defend Kabira against Ligarel's invasion, so he sends Kevla to form an alliance with them. But when Caspine realizes that the Nueck territory is close to the Broken Range Mountains, where the lost medallion might be hiding, she convinces Torin to let her go with Kevla. Reaching the territory proves hazardous, and the Nueck warriors are not fond of uninvited guests.
