Description
Written while at Mass College of Art in Boston, before he was published, Self publublished collection of hilarious letters. Born in Norwalk, CT, in 1972, Rich was basically a nerdy bookworm until he discovered punk rock when he was 15, at which point he became a nerdy punk rocker. Somewhere along the line he started drawing, painting, and collaging which led to his decision to move to Boston in 1990 to attend Mass College of Art. While officially majoring first in illustration and then painting, Rich started writing letters to corporations regarding their packaging, slogans, and advertisements to amuse himself. These letters also amused friends who convinced Rich to read them at poetry open mic nights and later publish them in zines (self produced photocopied booklets). Both activities enjoyed great public response and led to an eventual cult following in Boston and the national zine community. Mackin has performed spoken word based on his letter writing, eventually dubbed "Consumer Defense Corporate Poetry" at art openings, poetry events, rock shows, punk rock house parties, fundraisers, comedy clubs, and government sponsored public events. Letters included: Doritos, Kelloggs, M and M's, Mars, Gillette, Sprite, KFC, Folgers, General Mills, Lucky Charms, Funyons, Frito-Lay, McDonald's, Lever Brothers, Klondike Bars, Burger King, Dole, Wise, Borden, Mr. Clean, little debbie, McKee, Tweeter etc., Star Market, Jif.
