As expected, Dad did not react, his eyes focused on the Celtics game on TV.
Frankie had been a good boy. He didn't complain about being left at home by himself.
"Nice pass", I said, pretending to follow the game.
Frankie must be unhappy about the tutor, yet he didn't say a word.
"So how was the tutoring?" Dad asked.
"It's great. I think I can learn a lot from Dani."
I can see that he's trying hard, maybe I should reward him. $20 would cheer him up.
"Son, I'm proud of how hard you're working to improve your grades. Here, take this. You deserve it." Dad took out a $20 bill from his wallet and handed it over to me.
I accepted the bill with shaking hands, trying my best not to kiss President Jackson in front of Dad.
"Thanks Dad!"
"You deserve it champ," Dad said, before returning his attention to the TV.
My success with Dad had proven once again that subtle suggestions were the way to go. I decided to set smaller goals for Dani's sessions. After all, I would have plenty of opportunities. The last thing I wanted was for Dani to realize that there's something funny going on.
