AJAX with Java

Direct web remoting is an open source library that provides easy AJAX for java. This is a similar concept to web services for example JAXB in Java. It takes away all of the tedious debugging of java script because lets face it a lot of the stuff one is writing in javascript is the same stuff over and over again. It has received a lot of support and traction in the AJAX world. It also has a lot of support in other frameworks such as Spring.The whole idea of these types of frameworks and technologies is that you write a component on the server and then when you get to the client side you use the generated code to automatically access those server-side components. This book gives a brief introduction to the world of Direct Web Remoting (DWR). It starts off by explaining what this technology achieves and then provides instruction on how to configure and use it without Spring. The second part of the book speaks about how Spring can be configured and used to provide this DWR functionality. The examples used in the book are merely a means of highlighting important functionality concepts. The use of the technology as a means of achieving Asynchronous Web Services like functionality will become more apparent when looking at the video that accompanies this book.
