Henry Fonda's performances--in The Grapes of Wrath, Young Mr. Lincoln, The Lady Eve, 12 Angry Men, On Golden Pond--helped define "American" in the twentieth century.  He worked with movie masters from Ford and Sturges to Hitchcock and Leone.
