Haunted by the death of her child and stalked by a killer, romance author Dani Gwynne wants to want to live long enough to testify. And then her protection detail is compromised. She’s on her own in the mile high city of Denver, trying to figure out who to trust.

And why she’s trying so hard to live…

Deputy US Marshal Matthew Kirby knows he’s the good guy. And this is simple. She trusts him and he stops a lethal hit man for good. End of story.

With the clock ticking down on a macabre game of hide and seek with hit man, the romance author must find her will to live and love again. And the Marshal must learn that nothing is simple in life, in death, and particularly in love.

So, early last century, I found myself on the internet. At first it wasn’t that interesting. Just a blinking curser, but then I heard about bulletin boards—the last century equivalent of chat rooms—and started connecting with other authors. It was great. No more writing alone in my garret. No more clueless about the publishing business. Information began to flow back and forth.

And something else.

These were my people. Other hopeful authors. So naturally friendships bloomed.

I’m not sure when I started to wonder about the whole nature of these anonymous friendships. Some of them I eventually met in real time, but others were and remain, online friends. I wasn’t the only writer to wonder, what if some I’d met wasn’t who they said they were? And the wheels in my head started to spin. I liked to read romantic suspense, so it was natural that I’d embrace that genre for my series-to-be.

Eventually THE LAST ENEMY emerged from the morass. It wasn’t meant to be a series. I gave Matt brothers because it’s nice to have family. And he needed the support. I set it in Denver because it was a) high and b) one of the few cities at the time that had free internet in their libraries. (By the time the book was published, it no longer mattered, but by then I had other good reasons to keep the story in Denver and Rocky Mountain National Park.)

When readers asked for more, I was glad I’d given him brothers. I wrote Jake’s story next. BYTE ME was as challenging for me as it was for Jake and Phoebe. MISSING YOU was supposed to be the end of the LONESOME LAWMEN series, but then I realized their widowed mother deserved a story. LONESOME MAMA became the bonus short(ish) story when my then-publisher released the books as a bundle. We decided to release it by itself, but the bundle will be back, most likely the fall of 2013.

Before my LONESOME LAWMEN, I wrote a romantic suspense comedy called THE SPY WHO KISSED ME, and started DO WAH DIDDY DIE. While I consider my basic genre to be “peril,” I have wandered a bit between humor and darker suspense. I even penned what I call my lone gothic, A DANGEROUS DANCE.

Then comes my venture into action-adventure/time travel: OUT OF TIME came first, followed by my PROJECT ENTERPRISE series (taking the peril into space opera and beyond.) I just recently returned to my romantic suspense roots with a new series, THE BIG UNEASY, set in New Orleans. The first book is called RELATIVELY RISKY.
