It was late in the afternoon when Ed Coastanoa, enforcer for the Rossi crime family, entered Cathy and Alexandra Sparrow’s home, shooting Cathy Sparrow in the throat and their four-year-old daughter Chelsea in the chest, killing the child instantly. When Alex hears the loud bangs she rushes downstairs and runs straight into Coastanoa, who shoves her backward into the sofa and jabbing his thick finger in her face tells her, “We told you you were in too deep to quit… Now get back to work.”

Special Agent Jordan Hawkins, sixteen-year veteran in the FBI’s organized crime unit is assigned to the case, and Alex Sparrow’s behavior is so off-putting Jordan suspects she is involved. Investigating the married couple, Jordan learns that Cathy, now unable to speak, is a brilliant computer genius and Alex is in charge of sales of their company, Sparrow Data Protection Services. As Jordan devises a plan to make Alex cooperate with the FBI and testify against Anthony Rossi, Rossi’s men abduct Alex and their two-year-old son Cameron, brutally killing five agents in the process. Rossi proposes she work for him extorting money online utilizing her computer skills, and in spite of her nagging conscience, she agrees.

Now in the Witness Protection Program, Cathy returns to her maiden name, Catherine Bernard, and Jordan watches over her in a light station in Point Sur, California. Waiting for Alex to surface, Jordan keeps her growing feelings for Catherine hidden behind her professional mask, and Catherine finally has the opportunity to re-evaluate her marriage. When she is finally ready to admit she has feelings for Jordan she leaves, unable to allow herself a happy life until she has her son back. But when Alex and Rossi’s whereabouts are finally discovered, the inevitable confrontations can only lead to deadly consequences.
