About The Author
Frances Eliza Hodgson Burnett (1849 –1924) was an English author best known for her children's stories, in particular Little Lord Fauntleroy and The Secret Garden (1911). She was born near Manchester, England and her father died in in 1852 when she was a toddler. The family emigrated to the United States and settled near Knoxville, Tennessee, where Frances began writing to help earn money for the family. In 1870 her mother died and in 1872 she married Swan Burnett, who became a medical doctor. They moved to Paris for two years and had two sons before returning to live in Washington D.C. Little Lord Fauntleroy was published in 1886 and made her a popular writer of children's fiction.
