I once worked for an impossible boss. I thought he always wanted more than we could deliver. I worked many long days and nights to meet some of his deadlines and in the end I got little thanks for it. I got fired. Why? According to my boss I was “not delivering the goods”. I sat for months after that trying to understand what went wrong thinking about every situation and I felt I had really done a much better job than Larry and Joe, I had worked longer hours and tried much harder than Larry and Joe who were on the same team as me, yet they kept their jobs and I lost mine. I concluded - this a simple type of expectation. My boss “expected” more of me.
