West

Before Johnathan Jennings leaves Independence, Missouri for California in 1849, he writes in his journal how his 17 year-old daughter Sarah catches a fever and slips into a coma. Told by doctors she will surely perish, Johnathan leaves her behind and takes his remaining family WEST. Three months later, surprisingly Sarah lives and begins her own journal. To survive, she borrows money which unknowingly puts her into servitude at a whore house. As her horror unfolds, separately her father and brother recount their struggles on their journey West and how their family is torn apart - their journal entries and letters now woven together.

The promise of "WEST" is how these three years of journals, letters and postings will be brought together and the hope that the Jennings family, whatever remains of it, will be reunited.

What starts as a passage of adventure and enchantment, quickly turns to the harsh reality of 2,000 miles of unforgiving ground and unkind events. Being from the city, they are completely unprepared for the hardships, loss and inhumanity which awaits them. They did not come for the gold, although one of them discovers riches. They lose the dearest of treasures, yet during their quest, they discover many more. Their journey WEST is a dream which will test this family's mettle, break spirits, break hearts, break them apart, and yet bring hope.
