Description
This book discusses the wrong choices that many men make during periods of riches and prosperity, which sets them apart from God and can consign them to the wrong end in eternity.
Jesus Christ stunned his hearers in Luke 18:24-25 when He said:
‘’ How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God’’
God is not against riches because He gives people the power to make wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18). God wants His children to have money but does not want the money to have them and control them. If a man loses control over money, the money will control him, kill him and send him to eternal hell. God wants men to know how to rule money and not have money ruling them.
God gives riches but whether the owner of the riches will use it to glorify God or use it to rebel against God is another thing entirely. There are rich people in the Scripture who made it to heaven. Abraham, Job and David to mention a few are in heaven. Their righteousness, not their riches took them there.
The poor man, Lazarus in Luke 16: 19-31, who also made heaven, did not get there by reason of his poverty but by his right standing with God. Lazarus was poor on earth but was righteous and rich before God which qualified him for heaven.
Likewise the rich man in the same verses who went to hell got there not because he was rich but because he misused his riches and did not glorify God with it. He did not use his riches to benefit the poor but consumed it on himself alone.
Men who misuse their riches like the rich man in Luke 16:19-31 cannot make it to heaven unless they repent and amend their ways. God is not a liar and He means what He says (Numbers 23:19). Man was created with a free will to choose for himself how he wants to conduct his life on earth.
Therefore, how men choose to utilize their riches either to glorify the name of God the giver, or to use it in manners that will damn their souls in hell is their own decision to make and will give account of.
However, God who knows the mind of men has given many warnings in His word against the natural tendency by men to backslide during the time of prosperity.
The author highlights the many wrong choices and the way forward: how to become truly rich and prosperous, glorify God and end up on the right side in eternity.
