After almost being blown to pieces on his last case, Lee Cob wants nothing more than a long rest and recuperation period. His nerves are becoming ragged and his attitude is what some might call tetchy.
He decides he’s in need of a long holiday, but as he flops into his easy chair and sips his coffee, ready to contemplate his life – past, present and future – his phone rings and a woman’s voice from his past jolts him back to reality.
What she tells Cob draws him headlong into another case. This time, though, he will do battle with the most evil thugs he has faced in his twenty-two years on the Greater Manchester police force, and he will not fight his enemy on British soil.
This case will take him deep into the wilderness of another country, where he will search for the reason one man died and hopefully bring the monsters responsible to justice.
A tall order, because the mongrels who committed the killing will fight to the death to protect their secrets. Out there in the bush, he will come face to face with people whose mission in life is to destroy the very fabric of our society, and Lee Cob is aware that without the help he needs he will not succeed.
