The author Raghu Palat is one of India’s leading writers on banking, finance and investments. He has written over forty other extremely well received books.
Mr. Palat comes from a very illustrious Nair family. His great grandfather, the late Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair was a member of the Viceroy’s Executive Council and is the first and only Malayalee President of the Indian National Congress. He was instrumental in the enactment of the Malabar Marriage Act, 1896. A man of conviction and integrity, whom the Viceroy Lord Chelmsford called “the most powerful Indian in India”, he resigned from the Executive Council in outrage at the Jallianwalla Bagh massacre. His grandfather Mr. Ramunni Menon Palat was Minister for Public Health of the Madras Presidency during ‘self-rule’. His other great grandfather was his Highness, the late Rama Varma, the first Maharaja of Cochin and it was during his reign that the Cochin Nair Act, 1920 was enacted. His great grandmother, the late Parukutty Neithyaramma, was a brilliant lady and a very powerful person. His maternal grandfather, Vadakke Kuruppath Aravindaksha Menon was, in 1925, the first Indian to go as an industrial trainee to General Motors in the United States of America. His immediate family includes eminent civil servants, ambassadors, generals, corporate leaders and well known professionals.
A career banker Raghu Palat has held very senior positions with multinational banks in India and abroad. He is presently a consultant to banks. He also specializes in knowledge management. He manages a dedicated finance portal called bankingrules.com which is a repertoire of rules and regulations relating to finance, commerce, corporates and banks. In addition he conducts workshops on business etiquette, effective business writing, presentation skills, banking and finance. Mr. Palat also manages an e-learning portal on banking and business communication called www.ibbc.co.in.
He lives in Mumbai with his wife Pushpa. Their two daughters Divya and Nikhila also live in Mumbai.
