As more and more people Emerge in the world, Meta-Cop Francis Drake finds himself embroiled in situations often beyond his control. Now he has a new role as well: Teacher - showing Emerged students how to find the humanity within themselves. Even while at the Hurst Academy, however, he cannot escape his government handlers, and is soon sent on assignments that border on the fantastic. Searching for the deadly genebooster Inquisitor, Drake is brought face to face with a previous nemesis and his actions threaten to send his career spiraling into the Abyss.
