Description
BAREFOOT IN THE CARIBBEAN is a novel depicting the early career years of Doctor Lindsay Maxwell, a stalwart member of the Westmount Group of Ten which is featured in the trilogy by Stephen McNamee entitled Ten Thousand Days Has Our Youth. Shortly after getting his degrees and fulfilling his internship, Lindsay and his wife, nurse Mary Kelly, decide to devote their first years in medicine to a Third World situation. They travel to the southernmost part of the Caribbean and settle on the small, impoverished Island of Bequia, located ten miles offshore in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Their story reveals the hardships they face upon their arrival, endure during their years in the Islands and, alas, the success that eventually materializes as a result of their tireless resolve and dedication to reach all those altruistic objectives they had set out to achieve. Finally, the day of decision arrives. Following his reception of a major award, Lindsay must decide whether to return to the affluence of North America, which his family had been urging him to do for years, or to remain in the Caribbean and continue to serve the local community. This novel is a heartwarming love story, based upon the idealistic ambitions of two young people devoted to each other, their families, their fellowman and to God.
