What is the enigma associated with sex? Why there is so much secrecy about the sex? What exactly is sex? Prudishness of society over this serious matter is what the author frowns upon.
In this book Carpenter explains his views on this delicate subject. It can not be said that he was in favor of 'free sex' what ever that means but he emphasized the 'consciousness' which which humans indulge in sex. Therefore far from free sex, like it happens in flowers, his emphasis apparently is there is a higher form of sex that can be called love.
Written in his eloquent style of long sentences, it is an enchanting book on the subject.
