From the author:
Why are lyrics so difficult to write?
People don't know how tough it is. They say, "Just write something! How about this? How about that?" Argh!!! They just don't get it!!!
But you do... RIGHT?
The biggest problem I had with writing lyrics was not knowing what to write about. I wrote a song about my car once and that wasn’t too difficult (which meant I only occasionally slammed my head into a wall). Writing lyrics to other songs, though, had been close to impossible. When I write music, I sing along until words and vowel sounds start forming and then I basically pray that enough words will come so I’ll know what the song is about. But it never does! Ok, that’s a lie. Maybe 5% of the time it does. Ironically, I always know what the mood of the song is. The music and melody usually tells me if it’s a sad song or a happy song, or an angry song or a fun song. But even then I can’t figure out what the song is actually about. And that sucks.
I knew there had to be a better way.
After a (very) long time of complete frustration, I came up with a very simple method that’s helped me a ton. In fact, it was so helpful (and yet, so simple,) that I felt obligated to share it with anyone who’s ever struggled with writing lyrics or songwriting in general.
My book will help you figure out what your songs are about, but more importantly, it’ll help you find your voice - who you really are, what's important to you, how you really feel, and how to write it down. This will immediately help you write honest, meaningful lyrics no matter what style of music you play.
I also share some music writing tips and insights; like what do The Beatles and Mozart have in common that you can have, too? It’s not very complicated yet it’s necessary to write great music. And what about melody? I write in the book that you’ve got to make it interesting from the start. There’s no time to waste getting to the ‘good’ part. It should ALL be ‘good.’
There are loads of tips in the book, but it’s a quick read and easy to understand. In fact, you can read it all (and do all the simple exercises) in one night. But that said, I’d really recommend taking your time. It’s better to walk down the hill than run, right? :)
Best,
chazaray
p.s. I just found a great lyric writing tool. It's called MasterWriter and it's been really helpful! Google it and check it out.
