Description
The Shining Hours, is the love story of Mary Hamilton, a woman who has lived her life in the shadow of her husband Tom, on Mt. Hunter, a remote sheep station situated beneath the Southern Alps of New Zealand. When Tom is killed in a helicopter crash,Mary abandons her lonely life, and goes to Greece where she embarks on a bus tour through the Pelopennese. She is befriended by two gregarious American women, who initiate her into their life style, and introduce her to Constantine, a Greek/American, visiting the Pelopennese on business.
They fall in love, and Mary is changed for ever.
When tragedy explodes her idyllic assumptions, Mary returns to New Zealand. But the neighbours are too busy to note her concerns. Another farming season has taken precedence. Mary is forced to think in the present, and with reluctance, settles into an uneasy resumption of her responsibilities. Then, out of the blue, a letter arrives explaining the truth, and Mary, freed from her grief, is able to leave Mt. Hunter for ever.
