The Bible has much to say about the stars.

Most basic to our understanding of the stars is that God created them. They show His power and majesty. The heavens are God’s handiwork.

Psalm 8:3

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained;

Psalm 19:1

The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.

He has all the stars numbered and named.

Psalm 147:4

He counts the number of the stars;
He gives names to all of them.

The Bible also teaches that God arranged the stars into recognizable groups that we call constellations. The Bible mentions three of these:

Orion, the Bear, Ursa Major, and the crooked serpent, most likely Draco.

Job 9:9

Who makes the Bear, Orion and the Pleiades,
And the chambers of the south;

Job 26:13

“By His breath the heavens are cleared;
His hand has pierced the fleeing serpent.

Job 38:31-32

“Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades,
Or loose the cords of Orion?
“Can you lead forth a constellation in its season,
And guide the Bear with her satellites?

Amos 5:8

He who made the Pleiades and Orion
And changes deep darkness into morning...
