Erotic Art of the Masters: 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries: Introduction by Henry Miller

Here, for the first time, is a gallery of the most important erotic paintings of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. They have been separated into three books, which have been reproduced in digital form - one for each century.
The most skilled and creative painters in every era have produced this type of living art. In each age the artist has clearly stated: "This is life. This is a part of romance, of maturity, of pleasure, of love."
Much of this vital and liberating art has been kept in darkness by the censors, the powerful controllers of what humans have been allowed to view. In prior times, only a few - the wealthy, curators of museums, the clergy and close friends of the artists had access to these works of art by the world's most famous artists. Now the general public can see what was once forbidden.
The quest for the erotic art of the masters has taken BRADLEY SMITH, photographer and author, to the great museums of the world - the Louvre, the Museum of Modern Art, the Petit Palais of Geneva, and many others. Artworks from private collections have also been reproduced. New finds, such as an important, never-before-published erotic etching by Degas, are shown.
Works by famous artists of the 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries - Francois Boucher, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Édouard Manet, Gustave Courbet, Thomas Rowlandson are included in these books. Bradley Smith photographed these works in color, using modern techniques, to insure accurate reproduction.
But this is only a brief list of the distinguished painters whose works are shown. Also included are Picasso, Pascin, Hokusai, Utamaro, Chagall, Magritte and Dali. The woman painter of erotica, Clara Tice, has not been neglected. Outstanding contemporary artists such as Andy Warhol, Larry Rivers and Tom Wesselmann are also represented in full color, with chapters describing their place in history and society.
