The Hunter's Hound: Training Your Dog To The Rifle

Let say, before you start to read, that there are far better dog trainers about than me. Yet I have met few shooting men or women that have taken the time to ensure that the hound at their side is trained to perform in their own personal best interest or trained the dog to mirror their own personality. When I broke the rules to put a chasing dog at my side and then teach it not to chase, many folk frowned. Ten years on, many of those same folk look on enviously at the complete symbiosis achieved by a man, an air rifle and a scruffy old lurcher. This book therefore, is not intended as a manual on training an obedience champion. It is a common-sense approach to producing a dog which behaves around a rifle ... any rifle ... and a rifleman or woman who behaves around a disciplined dog. Yes, in many ways, this book is about training the hunter ... not just the hound.
