Description

Buddhism is based on several maxims. It’s wisdom endures forever, and frankly never ceases to be in full force. Two of these maxims are:

Nothing is eternal.
Since nothing is eternal, believing that things will bring you eternal happiness will instead bring you only suffering.

Don´t worry, this is not a book about Buddhism, although I wish it were, it is not even about religion; it is however about life, the kind we all live but often do not understand, or simply just can´t handle.

Consider the following question: What do you think abounds more in our society? Permanent happiness or suffering? Obviously suffering, but not because we are unable to achieve enduring happiness, only because the latter simply does not exist as part of our belief system.

Check this out, because it contains infinite wisdom, if you read between the lines, regarding what can bring you enduring happiness.

Do the following offer this promise? Relationships, maybe a promotion at work, possibly the birth of a child, winning the Lottery, exotic food, the influence of drink or drugs? Maybe all of the above or maybe NONE of the above? What? None of the above, you say?

This is not a pessimistic thought, if it were, I would not be encouraged to write this book. It is rather an insurmountable human and universal truth, which claims “NOTHING lasts FOREVER” therefore “NOTHING CAN PROVIDE specific ENDURING HAPPINESS.”

Maybe some events in your life have brought momentary joy and deep happiness, but you know that as time passes, this happiness gradually fades (as does suffering, thankfully). The tendency toward temporal happiness is undeniable; to deny this very human condition of living is pointless.

But if the human and universal truth is that everything changes, it stands to reason then that a complimentary universal truth would be that CONSTANTLY ADAPTING TO AN EVER CHANGING ENVIRONMENT by letting go of the past, as well as not anticipating, but merely responding to NOW by adapting to whatever now presents WILL BRING US CLOSER TO ENDURING HAPPINESS. Is this possible?

I personally believe that lasting happiness is attainable simply because it is achievable at least for a moment! So if any formula is repeated constantly it becomes more enduring, or at least more than just a single moment in time. This enduring and prolonged happiness is not the result of a single event, not even many of them, but is the result of a profound change within us; as well as many specific and focused actions on our parts.

Then, the only way to reach this paradise where happiness is constant, is to align ones self with the universal truth of constant change. How do we do that?

As we will demonstrate in this book, YOU have to make profound changes. Initially this might be scary but the truth is; not only do we have to get used to change, but we have to embrace it and give it a warm welcome, becoming new creatures, who love change. Why so radical, when things seem to go well… why change?
I shall posit my conclusion of life: ALL OF YOUR HAPPINESS, ALL OF YOUR DEVELOPMENT, ALL OF YOUR GROWTH, CAN ONLY BE EXPERIENCED BEYOND YOUR COMFORT ZONE, ON THE OTHER SIDE OF FEAR. This is where you will find happiness, peace and growth. The first change which needs to occur is an internal change, changing the basic blueprint of ourselves, and not only by simply accepting this fact, but rather by instead proactively pursuing it as if your very life depended upon first changing yourself.

Why not just wait for the inevitable change to occur, and then simply determine the best way to cope at that time? Because we will have then settled too quickly.

The natural tendency is that everything changes constantly as seen in the universe and the stars, the plants and the animals; these are all constantly changing. Curiously though, our human reality is one of settling in one manner or another, thinking that what we have is good enough, of must always
