Yes, yes, you must still cater to humans during the hiring process and it is a balance, but I found the traditional resume to be less of a factor than soft skills, positioning and demonstrating value during the interview process. You MUST cater to the Search Engines (algorithms) FIRST. Ignore this and you probably won’t even get contacted; if you aren't getting contacted on LinkedIn, this is probably why.

When I started my job search in 2008, I sent out over 125+ resumes and didn't receive a single response, let alone an interview.

Fast forward to 2014, where I get 1-3 job inquiries PER DAY via ONLY my LinkedIn profile from top companies in my target sector like Facebook, LinkedIn, Adobe, Ebay and more.
