Nosound

This book deals with different genres: rock, jazz, classical, electronics, and ethnic music, focusing on nosound. The three basic benchmarks of music are discussed: pitch, timbre, and intensity, so that it may be expanded the area of perception beyond sounds. Music allows us to find out a new reality, beyond logics, that is, nonsensical: a view relativizing opposites, where the Apollonian is the Dyonisiac. The enquiry of the writer, an orientalist and philosopher, is dominated by the spirit of contamination: ancient and modern elements, the East and the West, music, literature and painting, sonorities and silence, run after each other, always in the name of nosound. It is an essay dealing with aesthetics, musicology, psychology, anthropology, and hermeneutics. From the point of view of world music, are considered the works of great artists, such as, Terry Riley, Brian Eno, Richard Wagner, Soft Machine, Ryuichi Sakamoto, David Sylvian, and many others. What is the Tao of nosound? It is the fertility of nosound. The sound contributing to the creation of the universe is always the same: it concerns the Big Bang, Eric Clapton’s guitar, and Sufi dances. The author, whose books have been published by Italian majors, is also an instructor on meditation, and he gives courses on the spiritual meaning of music.
