My Son, The Stranger

A mother tells of raising her son with an occasionally absent father--a common situation in hundreds, if not thousands, of Filipino homes whose breadwinners work abroad. She watches her boy grow up with both pride and trepidation, watches him grow into a man, loving yet distant. And as he asserts his independence with physical distance, she will come to learn with eternal regret that the little boy she sung lullabies to has become a stranger.
