Description

Venus envy. Penis envy.

Transvestism, aka cross-dressing is experiencing sexual pleasure from dressing like someone of the opposite gender. Men are overwhelmingly more likely to be TVs than women although a few women crossdress as man but with them, it may not be that big of a deal since women are allowed to wear men's clothing in our society.

Crossdressing/ transvestites (TVs)/ in drag/ drag queens are men who like to wear women's clothes and put make-up on. It's big for men who secretly wear women's underwear at work then fully dress up as women at night.

Don't confuse crossdressers with transsexuals. Transsexuals want to be the other sex. Crossdressers just wanna have fun.

Transgender is the umbrella term for all people who like to have fun as the opposite gender.

Many transgender people are happy with themselves once they accept and understand it.

Some go out in public, others don't. They claim that most crossdressers are heterosexual men. Psychologists have a field day with this one saying it goes back to childhood and something about a repressed feminine nature or early sexual tingles with your mother's clothing.

Cross-dressing to me is a non-issue morally. Who cares how anyone dresses? As long as they're not beating people up, if they want to wear feminine clothes and look like the opposite gender, so what.

Crossdressing is very strong in Britain, the custom going back to Victorian days when mothers would dress their boys up as girls to distinguish them from young men, probably as a means to control them but a lot of guys liked it, it gave them an erotic thrill which they kept doing as they grew up.

There are small bed & breakfast like houses around where transvestites can go and spend the weekend among their own kind. There's one in Toronto, Ontario, Canada that I saw on TV. If anyone knows the address, tell me, I will put it in the next edition.

Miss Vera's Finishing School, missvera.com, is the name of a school in NYC and the name of a book written by Veronica Vera where male crossdressers go to first learn to take the shame out of what they do to be positive about it and secondly, to be in a relaxed atmosphere with your own kind, regardless of how bad you look as a woman.

As she says, "Huge numbers of men, it seems, are just dying to liberate the woman trapped inside … For every woman who burned her bra, there is a man ready to wear one."

Miss Vera's curriculum is generally as follows:

Female alterego.
Haircare.
Girlish figure.
Make-up.
Fashion sense.
High heels.
Speaking feminine.
The maid character.
Lady etiquette.
Being a woman in public.
Coming out to family and friends.
Sexuality.

There are a few mail order stores around that cater to bigger sizes of women's clothing for men. If you know the address of any, send them to me and I will put them in the next edition.

As far as society goes, transvestites and transgender people are worse off than gays, more misunderstood and there is a lot of prejudice against them. Within the field, there are some scathing activist books written by TVs/TSs who discuss this issue and urge the faithful to stay strong. Find them at cleispress.com.
To an average person, crossdressing seems like a minor fetish but based on what I've read, it's all-consuming to some people. It takes their lives over. They are, in effect, women trapped in men's bodies.

A drag queen is a transvestite, a guy who dresses up in women's clothes.

A drag king is a girl who dresses up as a guy.

Julian Eltinge aka Mr. Lillian Russell is considered the pioneer female impersonator. He performed around the 1910s.

Some prominent pop culture drag entities that you can try in search engines are as follows:

Barri Chatt, drag pioneer.
Dame Edna Everage, drag artist.
Danny LaRue, drag pioneer.
Divine, drag artist.
Farewell, my Concubine, movie, 1993.
First a Girl. old movie.
Jean Fredericks, drag pioneer.
La Cage A
