Painting the Land of Enchantment: Lesson 1: Yuccas

This is the first lesson in a series of five on painting the scenery in New Mexico. In this lesson I will show you how to paint a landscape in acrylic. All the painting steps in this book are created in ArtRage 4, a computer painting program that reproduces the exact look of acrylic painting.
New Mexico is known as the Land of Enchantment. From the colorful skies to the Wild West history, New Mexico is an artist’s paradise. This state has a wide range of colors, climates, and vegetation as well as many rich and enduring traditions. However, I have noticed that many times in popular TV shows, movies, books, and games, New Mexico is not accurately portrayed. If you see saguaros in a movie and it’s supposed to be New Mexico, it’s not. Saguaros grow in Arizona! In this book I want to show you what real New Mexico scenery looks like and also show you some fine art techniques that will help you paint any type of scenery.
