Harry Potter: a Christian Chronicle

Harry Potter, far from encouraging children to explore the occult, introduces readers to many Christian characters, values and symbols. This book book demonstrates the similarities between many of the fictional individuals and biblical persons, in their experiences, formation and their characters, e.g.Jesus, Peter, Paul, Martha/Mary, God the Father, the Devil, Judas and Caiaphas. It explores Rowling's world view on: authority, its source and its potential to be corrupted, also death, bereavement and the afterlife, racism, gender equality, slavery, family values holiness of life and the need for remorse, repentance to turn from serving evil to serving good. It addresses Rowling’s use of Christian imagery and symbolism and the power of love. It explores in context what the Bible says about witchcraft, Rowling’s use of it, (principally to replace our technology), and why these books are unlikely to draw children into dabbling in the occult.
