Rights were effectively exchanged for privileges and immunities and so-called blacks were placed in a state of limbo, void of nationality, outside of the original constitutional fold and stripped of sovereignty or self rule. Nationality provides the ties to the land, flag and culture of governance in question. Sovereignty can be considered the political right or entity of self-governance itself in that land or territory, as in a Moorish State or Nation-State and need not always be at odds with one another.
