“THOMAS! Wake up, man,†a loud voice yelled.
“WHAT? What time is it?†Thomas asked snarling, starting to wake up.
“Eleven thirty. Are you awake yet?â€
“WHAT?!? In the morning? Shit, I’m late,†Thomas exclaimed, jerking straight up in bed and falling to the ground with a big thud.
All that could be heard from the other end of the phone was uncontrollable laughter. “No, man, it’s eleven thirty p.m. What’s your problem, dude?â€
“Elliot, this is not funny. I just fell asleep. You seem to forget I’m two hours ahead of you. Also, I have two major tests tomorrow that if I don’t pass, I will be on my way home. What do you want and it had better be life or death, I swear,†Thomas snarled into the phone as he picked himself up off the floor.
Hearing his brother huff and puff like he was upset, Thomas couldn’t help but roll his eyes at his brother’s theatrics.
“What, I can’t just call my big brother to say hi?†Elliot asked with false outrage in his voice.
“Ell, I have been away at school for five years and you have never once called just to say hi. What do you want?†he started to get irritated with his little brother.
“Geez, Thomas. I’m not that bad. Am I?†Elliot asked.
Letting out a big sigh, staring at the ceiling of his bedroom, Thomas couldn’t help but feel bad for snapping at his little brother even though he was the one who was woken. “No, bubs, you’re not that bad. I’m just cranky. What’s up? How’s everyone doing? How’s Kyle?†he asked, hoping his brother didn’t think it was weird that he asked about Kyle.
“Oh, you know how the family is, loud and noisy. Say, have you met anyone yet? We are all betting on how many you've nailed. Kyle’s good, dude, there are like tons of schools begging him to come play baseball for them. A lot of them are offering full scholarships too.â€
Smiling, thinking of his pup, “That’s great. Tell him whichever school he goes to, I’ll be rooting for him.†Hearing his brother laugh at something or someone in the background, he asked.
“Hey, Ell? Is Jake around? Let me talk to him, please. Otherwise, I gotta hit the hay.â€
“Hay? I thought you had an apartment not a barn,†Elliot burst out laughing.
“Ha…ha…ha. Where’s Jake?†he asked sarcastically.
Instead of getting a response from Elliot, he heard a shy, “Thomas?†And with just a word he was hard as a rock and his wolf was all but howling and begging to see his mate. Closing his eyes, smiling, picturing his mate, Kyle, from the last picture Jake had sent him, he answered.
“Hey, pup. How’s it going?â€
“I’m not a pup, Thomas. I’ll be eighteen in just a couple of weeks.†Pausing and taking a deep breath, Kyle continued, “Will you be coming home for Thanksgiving?â€
Dropping his head back, he squeezed his eyes shut. He didn’t want to hurt Kyle’s feelings.
“I don’t know if I’ll be able to.â€
“Oh, okay. It’s just—†Kyle started th
