THIS edition in English of all the Novels of
Alexandre Dumas is based on the standard French
Edition published in Paris by MM. Calmann-Levy.

It was not until this volume was issued that Messrs.
Methuen discovered the fact that A PRINCE OF
THIEVES and ROBIN HOOD THE OUTLAW
were originally adapted from ROBIN HOOD AND
LITTLE, JOHN, an English romance written by the
younger Pierce Egan, and published by W. S. Johnson
in 1838. The book was considerably cut down by
Dumas, and was issued in two parts under the above
titles ; but though many alterations were made, the
story is substantially the same,
