It’s been a year since Toey landed in Bangkok to a world gone mad. During the hours of their flight everything had changed – an impossibly lethal zombie plague that came out of nowhere, flaring up and dying out in less than a day, had left few survivors. In the mass turnings that followed Bangkok was overrun by infected dead and the undead. Since that time she and her fellow lifers began making a tentative new life … in the ruins of Chang Island.

But now something worse has appeared. Elite zee’s – the beneficiaries of a chemically-induced post-infection enhanced zombie consciousness – are determined to co-opt the treatment that Toey’s mentor was developing before the mass die-off.

Putting her knowledge of consciousness and trance states to work, she begins piecing together what the zombie rules of engagement will need to be. The fallout if she fails doesn’t bear thinking about.
